Braille and Large print Exams & TestsPia has provided braille and large print exam and test material at a national level for nearly 15 years. During this time, we’ve developed rigorous procedures for handling confidential material as well as a high level of expertise in modifying, transcribing and producing braille and large print education material. We also have vast experience of working with technical braille codes, such as mathematics and science, and of creating accessible and tactile diagrams to support braille and large print exams and tests. ModificationSome subjects and levels are modified in-house, but where the subject or level of the exam or test requires it, Pia has developed connections with many specialist teachers of the visually impaired in a variety of subjects. Pia also has a confidentiality agreement to which all colleagues working on exams and tests are signatories. For those organisations that haven’t already engaged modifiers, Pia can arrange for your exams and tests to be modified for your approval before the braille and large print transcription process starts. BrailleBraille exams and tests include quality braille transcription and clear tactile diagrams supplied with models, if required. All tactile diagrams are drawn electronically initially before being produced in one of two formats. The electronic files are then placed in the print transcript supplied with the braille exams and tests for the invigilator or support assistant. Finished braille exams and tests are supplied in opaque, tamper-evident plastic envelopes with an external print label. Large printLarge print exams and tests are transcribed in Pia’s standard accessible large print format described on the ‘What is large print?’ page in our Resources section. Accessible diagrams for the large print exams and tests are also drawn electronically and are significantly simplified versions of the diagrams in the standard print version. Like the braille exams and tests, the large print versions are supplied in opaque, tamper-evident plastic envelopes with an external print label.
