Large print

Creating quality accessible large print documents requires as much care and application as is needed to transcribe documents to braille and moon.  For more information on the format of Pia’s large print and to see a sample, please refer to the ‘What is large print?’ page in our Resources section.

Large print transcription starts with the original text, but it is not simply a matter of making it bigger.  The large typeface means that all the layout needs re-formatting and it will probably need editing as well to ensure that page references and indexing are correct.

Tables are an obvious issue when trying to present the same amount of information on the same size page in large print.  Either the amount of information will need to be reduced, or the table will need to be presented differently.  Where diagrams need to be included in the large print version, they will often need re-drawing to ensure the same accuracy and to allow full access.

Pia follows the RNIB guidelines for transcribing to large print, but we believe we also go further to ensure that your large print document is equal in quality and presentation to the standard print and demonstrates your commitment to your partially sighted customers.

We also provide print in bespoke formats to meet as many individual needs as possible.  If you have a customer or customers with specific requirements, contact us to see what we can do for them.  If you have regular contact with these customers, we can also manage your correspondence with them to ensure that the right formats reach the right customers, and all in the fastest time possible.  See the Contract Management page in our Services section for more information on our data management procedures.
