The impact of accessible formats

In a world where standard communication methods don’t meet everyone’s needs, accessible formats offer a vital bridge to inclusion. Imagine the difference it makes to read a personal letter in large print, to choose a meal from a braille menu at a restaurant, to sit an exam with adapted materials, to explore a new hobby using accessible resources, to vote independently with a braille ballot paper, or to navigate unfamiliar places using a tactile map.

Providing these options are essential for increased independence, dignity, and equal participation. Accessible formats empower people to engage fully with everyday life.

Enhancing daily life

Applications for accessible formats are vast, and crucial for individuals to access essential and recreational information in their daily lives. From the moment we wake up, each person has their own ways of navigating the world, for those with specific needs this can be an ongoing challenge – this is the reason Pia exists.

Examples of specialist work we produce:

Exams
Tactile Maps
Business Cards
Labels
Menus – mixed and single format
Ballot Papers
Greeting Cards
Invitations
Books – mixed and single format

How it works

The exact process of working with us can differ depending on the nature and volume of the work. However, for ad hoc documents, the sequence of events goes something like this:

Bearded man smelling blue flowers wearing a hat and jumper.

The following examples are times that work a little differently

Documents are often best suited to the creation of templates, where large volumes of the same document are needed with only small changes to personalise them for individual end users.

For ongoing workstreams we have customers who submit daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual work. In these cases we set up secure cloud-based folders for easy sending and returning of files, and develop rate cards for predictable and consistent costs.
