Why use large print?
Large print is a crucial format for people with low vision and those who experience reading challenges such as dyslexia. By increasing font size and optimizing layout, large print documents significantly improve readability, reduce eye strain, and support smoother navigation through text. This format not only enhances the reading experience but also promotes independence and confidence for users who may otherwise struggle with standard print.

Bringing large print to life with texture
Accessibility doesn’t stop at enlarging text. For people with low vision who benefit from both visual and tactile input, we also offer tactile print enhancements. These include raised-line diagrams, charts, graphs, and maps that can be explored through touch. When paired with large print labels and descriptions, these tactile elements provide a multi-sensory experience that deepens understanding and engagement, especially in educational, navigational, and technical contexts.
Frequently asked questions
What font size qualifies as large print?
We usually use 18pt font size, but we can customise the size, font, and layout based on individual needs or organisational guidelines.
There is a reasonable limit to how large we can print, as text could cover so many sheets of paper it would become unwieldy and difficult for the individual to use. At this point, we might suggest an accessible PDF if suitable for the end user, or audio.
Can large print be combined with other accessible formats?
Yes! We frequently produce ‘tip and turn’ menus containing both braille and large print bound together. Each side has a cover and contents page. When holding the menu upright you flip the menu vertically to access the other format, hence the name ‘tip and turn.
Any order can comprise a combination of formats. For example, large print can be paired with tactile graphics, as well as other formats including audio, or Easy Read to support a wider range of access needs.
What paper sizes and colours are available?
We offer print sizes up to A3 and a variety of paper colours and finishes to enhance contrast and readability. Customers may also choose to have custom stock sent to us if needed for specific work.
Is large print only for people with low vision?
While it’s especially helpful for people with low vision, large print can also benefit individuals with dyslexia, cognitive challenges, or anyone who finds standard print difficult to read.
With decades of experience in accessible print production, Pia can produce inclusive, high-quality materials that ensure no one is left behind. Let us help you transform your content into formats that are not only compliant, but truly empowering.
